A Pole is For Life – Not Just for Christmas

Although I’ve used a play on words for the title – in the UK every Christmas the RSPCA had TV ads that said ‘a dog is for life, not jut for Christmas’ – I’d like to make a serious point about setting up poles that you get, whether at Christmas or any other time of year. When you’re excited it’s tempting to get the pole up as quickly as possible and just start swinging, but if you don’t check the safety instructions you can... Read More

Where Did the Mini Cube Come From?

Guest Post by Nadia Shariff   The Mini Cube idea came to life because I am a YouTube addict and I was inspired by watching hand balancing acts, so I had a friend weld me a cube based off of a drawing I made. Once the cube was completed, I started practicing hand balancing and contortion inspired skills with, in, on and around the cube. I loved the look of it but I felt a bit restricted since my handstands are not as great as I’d like them... Read More

Fruity shorts, Random Flags and Last Minute Floors at the Fitness Expo

Sydney is full of fit and healthy people this weekend as the yearly Australian Fitness and Health Expo has rolled into town.  It started yesterday at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre and runs until Sunday.   I went along yesterday for the trade day, but today and tomorrow are also open to the public.  Trade entries are free and public entry tickets are from just $20. Twee Phan and Emily Boughton were left doing the hard work while Jennifer Grace and Clare O'Bree... Read More

Pole Size – is Bigger Better?

Well, contrary to popular belief, bigger isn’t always better; especially when it comes to pole width.   It’s a matter of personal preference, along with whether you need to be getting to grips with a certain size for competitions, shows or other pole dance work.   Skinny poles make hand-grip moves easier and fat poles make leg grips easier.  As for elbow grips, I personally prefer a medium size pole – just to be awkward!!!   My advice is to always practice... Read More

Pole dancing on Wii Fit – Really?

Peekaboo’s been at it again… 4 years ago their poles aimed at young girls were pulled from Tesco stores in the UK, and they could be facing more controversy soon. Peeaboo pole removed from Tesco stores in 2006 I read a post last week that stated Wii are working in collaboration with Carman Electra and Peekaboo to get a pole dance game out.   Being me, a fairly inquisitive and sceptical person, I didn’t believe that was true – or an appropriate setting to learn pole –... Read More

Pole Shoes Test – Heels

// // Being told I looked amazing as soon as I slipped my new heels on gave me an instant boost. Then all I had to do was start dancing. Before class I was a fair bit apprehensive about pole dancing in heels for a number of reasons, including my tendency to injure myself and worrying that getting into and out of moves would be more difficult. I chose the shoes because they’re simple and will go with any outfit – a very important feature, should I ever choose... Read More

Glove test one – pvc and stretch fabric

I got a few funny looks from the girls when I pulled on the little black gloves  in class, and I must admit that I was a little hesitant about using them. Class was always going to be frustrating – due to pole slips – because the weather gods decided to blast us with mid 30s heat.  Nevertheless, I was happy to try the gloves to see if wearing them would a) stop me getting calloused man-hands and b) help me stick to the pole to hold positions better. In hindsight it wasn’t... Read More
