Well get your ideas lodged with Bobbi’s Pole Studio in Sydney to see if you can get a spot.

The producers of the hit TV show are planning on auditions to start in about 6 weeks time, so that’s mid to late March 2013. They’re looking for that wow factor and apparently a straight up sexy pole dance solo probably won’t make the grade. Something different is wanted… a group act, crazy doubles, magic tricks or maybe some tumbling monkies… who knows what they’re looking for, but get your thinking caps on because if there isn’t anything special they won’t come and watch!

5 or 6 acts are needed to make the auditions a go and expressions of interest need to go to Ness at Bobbi’s. You can get her on Facebook or call (02) 9264 0080.

Break a leg and let us know how you go xx

When you’re excited it’s tempting to get the pole up as quickly as possible and just start swinging, but if you don’t check the safety instructions you can easily fall on your head.

So…. no matter how old your pole is, if you didn’t check the manual and watch the DVD/YouTube instructions please take a few mins to look at them now and double-check that your pole is safe.

Even if you’d had your pole up for a while you should still check that it’s secure every now and then and perform the recommended maintenance procedures.

That said – go and have fun, enjoy your pole and share your pics with us on Facebook

I had been wanting to do a pole shoot in a street location for a while, Southbank is a great location because there are so many interesting shaped walls, orginally I just wanted to go down there because they have big plain walls of grey concrete that I wanted to bounce coloured lights off but we ended up going to where all the graffetti was because we weren’t in the way of anyone :) as it is mostly very busy down there!

Nico won Mr Pole Fitness UK so he won a photo shoot from me… I’ve shot Nico before so we didn’t want to do anther studio shoot, so that’s why he became my street photography dancer :)

I’m actually glad I was shooting a guy that day too cos it was bringing an interest from some Parkour guys, Southbank regularly has guys jumping from building to building, it’s such a tough physical activity so these guys were impressed to see what Nico could do cos they know about holding flags etc…

Shooting guys to girls I don’t find it that different really, I’m still looking for the same things, mostly concerning best angle for the trick but saying that I direct girls a lot more with what to with their hands and wear to look but that’s only if their a bit stiff and awkward. I’ve shot tons more girls then guys tho so maybe if there was as many guys as girls doing pole then maybe I’d have to direct the guys more too.

We used a static R-Pole Play, there great for doing location shoots cos they go up in about 3 mins & it fits in my snowboard bag :) Only thing is you’ve got to edit out the bottom cos it’s too ugly in the shot.

Check out the rest of the shoot on Millie’s Facebook page

The talent was outstanding, the tricks even more dangerous, a competitor walked off-stage and just before going on-stage someone thought they pooped in their pants!

Bobbi’s Pole Studio did another amazing job at hosting this extreme competition, where the best Australian female pole dancers gather to out-dance each other and show us new tricks to aspire to.

This year I managed to persuade my man Wayne and our good friend Trent to come along too. They loved it… not surprisingly. Aside form the stunning ladies and awesome arse wiggles, they were particularly taken with Maxi Shields and ‘her’ every-growing boobs.

As for backstage gossip… well, that’s one I have to give to Lisa D Poledancer. An awesome chic from Melbourne who placed 3rd in the MPDA VIC heats. Her blog post about MPDA 2013 brought ears to my eyes and made me re-think making a sandwich for lunch! Check out Lisa’s post here.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially those on the winners list for Miss Pole Dance Australia 2013

Porscha - the recently crowned Miss Pole Dance Australia 2013

Next month I’ll be travelling to Canberra for what promises to be very full days of yoga fun where I’ll need every spare space in my brain to cram in as much as I can about yoga for children and young adults, acrobatic, partner and community yoga. I think they describe the course correctly when they call it ‘intensive’!

For those who don’t know, yoga is an ancient science that helps to create health and well-being by building awareness, strength, and flexibility in both mind and body; which makes it a perfect practice alongside pole dancing.

Yoga postures, or Asanas, are practiced by people of all ages and in many different states of health and fitness. Practitioners have been long attesting to the benefits of yoga including stress and pain relief, improved circulation and digestion, better body alignment, increased concentration, deeper, more relaxed breathing, and a sense of well-being and inner peace.

The course I am attending is geared towards ages 1 – 18, but many of the rules are transferrable to teaching adults as well. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, there are sections for acrobatics, partner and community yoga which are applicable to all ages.

There will be plenty of stories and funny poses that I can share to help get into tricky pole moves, so keep your eyes peeled for more news of my yoga adventures in the name of pole dance and the extension of my POGA exploits!!!

Rainbow Kids Yoga is run by the lovely duo Gopala and Angel and I can’t wait to learn from the best in their field. If you’re interested in taking your yoga skills to the next level I’d advise studying with Raindbow Kids for the following courses:

Yoga for kids and families – Canberra – November 23rd – 25th 2012

Yoga for kids and families – Byron Bay – March 29th – 31st 2013

Yoga for Kids is a fun way for children to develop important skills in a non-competitive environment. Even at a young age, children often feel pressure at school academically and socially, plus the added pressure of competitive organized sports. It is easy for girls and boys to become overly self-critical, and lose confidence in themselves as they grow and transform both physically and mentally. Yoga is a great remedy; there is no judgment in a yoga class about how a child does a pose or plays a game. Doing a pose ‘perfectly’ is not the aim of yoga, which nurtures a child’s inner strength and self-acceptance.

This nourishing atmosphere encourages children to relax and have fun while they develop not only strength, coordination, flexibility and balance, but also body awareness, better focus and concentration, and self confidence. In fact, a 2003 study by the University of California of children in a Los Angeles school found that children who had frequent yoga instruction showed significant increases self esteem, as well as overall fitness, academic performance, and even a decrease in discipline problems as students felt more relaxed and were more aware and respectful of their peers.

Sun Moon Partner Yoga – Byron Bay – 5th – 7th April

Yoga is wonderful…and it is even more magical when you share the practice with a partner. Yoga works on many levels, and it is a journey of discovery, of ourselves and our interdependence. Each one of us is a whole universe to be explored through this practice.

In partner yoga we connect to each other in new and fun ways, we touch and are touched, we stretch farther than usual with our partner’s help, balance in ways we could not by ourselves, breathe deeply together and dive into tranquility while we stare into each other’s eyes.

A partner yoga class can be a romantic experience… or just a way for family or friends to connect or simply to make yoga a more fun practice.

We’re looking for pole dancers to come along and be photographed by a host of amateur photographers in a secret central Sydney location.

The reason to keep it a secret is because iSnap is like the Amazing Race, where the entrants are given clues to find different photography points. Don’t worry, as soon as you let us know you’re up for it you’ll find out where to meet us. Plus it’s inside, so no need to worry about the rain!

The only rules are that you’re over 18 and are willing to bring heaps of energy, smiles and fun poses. All pole dancing levels are welcome.

Just give us a call or text to 0450 121 211.

Here are some more photos from the previous iSnap.

Guest Post by Nadia Shariff

The Mini Cube idea came to life because I am a YouTube addict and I was inspired by watching hand balancing acts, so I had a friend weld me a cube based off of a drawing I made.

Once the cube was completed, I started practicing hand balancing and contortion inspired skills with, in, on and around the cube. I loved the look of it but I felt a bit restricted since my handstands are not as great as I’d like them to be.

I thought I may use it as a prop in a pole piece, but then quickly realized it deserved a piece all on its own. That’s when I thought I would try suspending it as an aerial apparatus. I was uncertain on how to rig it. I thought… from 1 corner? 2 corners? 4 corners? After many hours of experimental rigging I decided 1 corner is where I found it to be most interesting and abstract which is why I choose to rig it from 1 corner for my performances.

I have only been working on this apparatus for about 5 weeks and performed twice with it. I am going to continue to explore the possibilities and movements with the Mini Cube. My dream is to develop an act and audition with it, in hopes of making it into a show. This has got my creativity soaring…. I am already thinking of another apparatus with a twist …

Note from Dolly: It looks like so much fun, thanks to Nadia for this little insight to the Mini Cube and how it evolved from her pole dancing. I’m pretty excited to see what’s coming next!

And thus, POGA was born.

Someone else may very well have done this combination before, but I haven’t seen or heard of it, so I’m claiming it as my creation for now

This is the first time I’ve tried it out on film, but I’m sure there will be much more to come, so keep your eyes peeled.
