Sam Williams Wins Pole Candy 2012 as a Cowgirl Guest post by Sam  Williams     I am so excited that I won Pole candy! I was so suprised when they called my name.  There were so many awesome performances on the night!   All my training had paid off! I have been training at a few different studios and on my own potable pole for the past couple of months as I am travelling OZ for the next year!   All the studios have been great, so welcoming, and I have learnt a lot from other teachers and students!   Suzie...

The First Pole Now Eisteddfod is on Saturday

Monday, May 14, 2012

Guest Post by Pole Now Eisteddfod   After many years of competing in the pole industry, I find myself in the same circle of events that I do each year when preparing for a competition.   I would make up a routine (or usually half a routine) pick out what I think is a fancy theme and add a sparkly costume to match. I train the tricks again and again, and try to show as many people as possible before the big day. But when my feedback audience is my close friends and beginner students, it is sometimes hard to...

What Have Pole Dancing, Top Gear and Manly Corso Got in Common?

Saturday, May 12, 2012

When I got the call from ImageInk Studio to do a photo shoot with the guys from Top Gear I thought they might have the wrong number – I mean, what do cars and pole dancing have in common – apart from you seeing pics of hot girls draped over both?   Well, Volvo seems to want to spice up their image and they’ve brought out a car called the Polestar, so the Editor of Top Gear thought it would be great fun to send one of his journalists, Craig, to see me and learn how to pole dance, in honor of the new car.   On...

Judge Jamilla Gives Her Verdict on Pole Candy

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Guest post by Jamilla Deville   For the last three years, PoleCandy has been steadily building a name for itself as the comp to be in for amateur dancers. Starting in a pub on George Street, Parramatta, in 2009, it has now grown itself into TWO comps, Amateur and Semi-Pro, the latter of which took place last weekend at the Roxy Theatre. With a capacity of 600, a huge stage & a ceiling that reaches to the stars, it’s as if PoleCandy has finally landed.   Having been invited to sit on the judging...

Twee Phan and Emily Boughton were left doing the hard work while Jennifer Grace and Clare O'Bree were off playing somewhere   The...

Winners of the Australian Pole Fitness Championships

Thursday, April 26, 2012

A massive round of applause to all the great performances at the recent Australian Pole Fitness Championships that was held in Melbourne. Gracie Buntine took the top spot for the ladies – which was well deserved by all accounts.  There was much praise for her great routine and I can’t wait to see it for myself. The flame-haired Callan took the men’s title and I was left mouth agape at the great strength and flexibility of the guy.  When his leg went behind his head during a split on the pole even...

Tears of Joy and a Standing Ovation at the Vic Pole Dance Comp

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Guest post by Kristy Sellars from PhysiPole Studios The afternoon began with competitors arriving from 3pm, with girls from Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Warrnambool, there was a lot of excitement to meet fellow polers and exchange comp prep stories with each other. A great supportive and friendly environment amongst competitors made for awesome crowd support for every performer.   The venue was just big enough to hold the 500 people attending, with a VIP seated area, merchandise shop and enormous bar in the...

Winners from the International Pole Championships (IPC) 2012

Saturday, March 17, 2012

The competition was exceptionally high in Hong Kong as pole dancers from all over the world took upon their poles to compete in the International Pole Championships (IPC) 2012. Oona Kivelä won the prestigious ‘Ultimate Pole Champion’ title, so big congratulations to her, but I’m sure there was a lot of debate among the judges before that decision was reached. One of the judges, Marlo Fisken, said “ her performance stood out, primarily because of her execution and because of her refinement”. Praise was also...

Flying High at Sexpo

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

The delightful Suzie Q will be strutting her stuff, spinning round a pole and soring through the air on a trapeze at Sexpo this weekend.   Get yourselves down to the “Women’s Wonderland” section to catch a glimpse of what’s sure to be a breath-taking pole dance from the former Miss Nude Australia.   If you’re staying for a while – which is likely, considering all they’ve got to look at – make sure you catch Suzie on the trapeze as well.  She’ll be flying around, doing flips and splits...

Pole Size – is Bigger Better?

pole sizes

Well, contrary to popular belief, bigger isn’t always better; especially when it comes to pole width.   It’s a matter of personal preference, along with whether you need to be getting to grips with a certain size for competitions, shows or other pole dance work.   Skinny poles make hand-grip moves easier and fat poles [...]

Increasing Your Grip Strength

farmerwalks

When we’re trying to hold hand grip moves for longer,  have just started pole dancing, or when we change to a thicker pole, it’s often grip strength that lets us down.   Grip strength is determined by the muscle and bone strength, size and thickness of your fingers, hands, wrists and forearms.  In terms of [...]

Is a fake tan by Pole Physics the answer to the bad summer?

Brig Tan 1

Guest post by Brighdie Chambers   I have to admit I was pretty skeptical when I heard about a gradual tanner for pole dancers moisturisers and fake tans were always a big pole dancing no-no.   I always forget to put fake tan on because I pole dance almost every day and when I come [...]
